Move to Infrastructure department

There have been some organization changes in the company and I have been moved to the Infrastructure Corporate department. My new job title is IT Solutions DBA and my duties will be:

  • Maintain existing systems, suggest improvements, optimize performance, re-design and re-implement where appropriate, after analysing workload in the production environment.
  • Create and apply the standard procedure for migrating servers from old machines to new ones, optionally upgrading from SQL Server 2000 to 2005/2008.
  • Consolidate several physical servers into one virtualized server (VMWare).
  • Create tailored maintenance plans in T-SQL for all the SQL servers in the company to keep these databases performing at a proper level.
  • Create/help developers to create SQL Agent jobs for reporting to business. Tuning queries and seizing all the functionalities of SSIS and SSRS.
  • Support infrastructure with requirements to ensure stable backup and restore activities.
 
Promotion to Development DBA

I've changed department in Transcom, promoting to a new position: Development DBA. My duties will be:

  • Fully manage all development and testing databases related to LanceNG.
  • Logical and physical database design.
  • Support infrastructure department with requirements to ensure stable backup and restore activities.
  • Support developers with SQL efficiency and performance.
  • Responsible for SQL Server 2005 monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Responsible for ETL design, implementation and support. SSIS, T-SQL and VB.NET.
  • Provide support by being available on call out of office hours in case of outage in production.
 
Promotion: IVR & Inbound Analyst

After eight months working as IT developer in Transcom, I've been promoted to the position of IVR & Inbound Analyst. During these eight months I've acquired knowledge in the following areas:

  • SQL Server 2000 and 2005: development of ETL processes (DTS and SSIS),  automated jobs, creation and improvement of Transact-SQL queries and stored procedures.
  • C# and Python: development and improvement of projects concerning treatment of audio files taking advantage of the use of regular expressions.
  • Altitude software development.
From now on, my duties will be:
  • Gather requirements getting in touch with business personnel as technical consultant for better understanding the business requirements.
  • Provide technical solution analysis including database models, flowcharts, timelines, etc...
  • Provide project follow-up supporting the IT developers during the script creation.
  • Develop dynamic websites using PHP with SQL Server for business to manage IVR solutions.
  • Travel to European countries making presentations of our technical solutions.
 
My first job as computer engineer

Transcom WorldWide has a new Junior Developer who will begin to work in their offices at Barcelona next 11th of June. I don't even have finished my degree yet (thesis left) but time has come for me to begin my career as computer engineer in the CRM operator with the largest geographic coverage in Europe, which serves some of the most successful and demanding international companies.

My duties will be:

  • Software development of interfaces between applications in the production environment as well as tools to automate manual procedures.

  • Development of custom software components and scripts to support large multinational clients.

  • Prepare handover documentation for and give training to the local Support team.

  • Research and correct production issues encountered during and after implementation.

  • Perform impact analysis for sub-systems and databases that directly or indirectly interact with changes that are implemented.

  • Work with the relevant project manager to provide information relating to estimates, tasks and task dependencies.

 

 
New projects added: Shell and Tasks Scheduler

New projects added to the "University" section: a command line shell terminal and a tasks scheduler for Unix/Linux. Both of them were implemented in C under Linux for "Operative Systems Fundamentals " course.
